Tips for Saving Money: Money in a jar

Tips for Saving Money

If you are looking for tips for saving money then you came to the right place!  Money Tree Network gives you ideas like shopping at discount grocery stores, shopping at specific stores, meal prepping, using cashback apps, and much more!

We will start off with some of my favorite grocery stores including Aldi, Walmart, and Costco.

Best Grocery Stores: Grocery store full of vegetables

Grocery Stores

Aldi

This is my favorite grocery store ever, and the one that I personally shop at on a weekly basis.  You can buy almost everything that you need at Aldi for a quarter of the price! Who doesn’t want to save that kind of money?

While prices certainly vary based on where you live, I am able to get cucumbers for $.55, a large bag of oranges for as little as $2, an entire loaf of bread for less than $1, and a dozen eggs for $1!  These prices are insanely good for all of these foods.

Aldi rarely offers actual coupons for any products, but at these prices who needs a coupon?  They have a couple isles full of “Aldi Finds” which usually consist of shelving units, new technology, bedding, and much more at amazing prices.

If you sign up for their email list, you will receive their flyers every week that advertises all of the extra great deals that they have to offer.  This is a great way to start meal planning for the entire week. I highly suggest trying Aldi!

Walmart

If you are not sure where there is an Aldi in your area, Google it!  If there aren’t any within driving distance, check out Walmart. Walmart offers some great prices on groceries, homegoods, clothing, and so much more.  If you need it, Walmart most likely has it at a great price.

If you are tired of going to the regular grocery store try out Walmart!  If you are looking for some basic parts for your car try Walmart! If you are looking for cheap clothing check Walmart!  They have great deals on all different things and unlike Aldi, they offer coupons from time-to-time.

Walmart is known for their long lines and lack of customer service so I highly suggest downloading their app.  Their app will tell you where exactly in the store the product is. It will save you from having to walk around the entire store to find one little thing.  Stop in your local Walmart today.

Costco, BJs, and Sam’s Club

Costco, BJs, and Sam’s Club are the 3 best known bulk grocery stores in America.  They offer larger portions of EVERYTHING at a good price. You do have to have a membership in order to get into these stores but the amount that you will save will make up for the cost of the membership.

While all 3 of these stores do offer good prices, they do not usually have the best prices.  Walmart and Aldi are the 2 best options, but if you are shopping for a large family and just want to buy in bulk, check out these options!

These 3 stores also offer clothing, gas, trip discounts, and homegoods in the store so I would suggest taking full advantage of these great products.  Costco gas is my favorite! It is so cheap and a great way to save money on gas.

My Favorite Clothing Stores

As I mentioned Walmart, Costco, BJs, and Sam’s Club are all great places to buy clothes at a great discount but there are a couple stores that I would suggest checking out that are focused on clothing.

Tips for Saving Money: Money in a jar

Old Navy

I love Old Navy because of the great prices on quality clothing that they offer.  All clothes in the store are Old Navy branded clothes but they offer great prices.  You can get jeans for less than $50, flip flops for less than $5, and t-shirts for less than $10!

At certain times of the year, they offer amazing sales such as $1 flip flops, $20 Jeans, and $5 t-shirts and sweaters.  Who doesn’t love these prices? Before you shop anywhere else I suggest at least checking out Old Navy.

JCPenney

JCPenney is an amazing store for Americans to buy clothes at.  They offer great prices on all brands of clothing and they offer great discounts of the year.  At certain times, they offer 20% or 25% off the clothing in the store, other times they offer even larger discounts.

No matter what the deal is, JCPenney should be the 2nd place you go to buy clothes!

Kohl’s

Kohl’s is the last discount clothing store I am going to talk about today, but it is also one of the largest department store chains in the country!  This is one of the best places to go if you are looking for high quality clothing that is name brand.

Kohl’s sells brands including Ralph Lauren, Nike, Dockers and many others!  They almost always have some kind of sale going on so why not stop in to see if they have anything you need?

Save On Food

Meal Plan and Meal Prep

Meal planning and prepping is a great way to save time and money.  Imagine if you cooked once a week and had meals for the whole week!  No more coming home from work at night and then just starting to cook.  How nice would that be?

If you meal plan based on the deals that you can get at any of the grocery stores mentioned above, you can save a lot of money.  Let’s say chicken and rice are both on sale. You would buy both of these products and base all of your meals off of these 2 products.  Then simply start thinking about the things that you could make with these.

Once you plan for the week, it is time to start cooking!  Cook everything that you need for the week, put it in a zip lock bag or tupperware container and stick it in the fridge or freezer.  In the morning simply empty the container into your crockpot and you are set to go!

This will not only help you save money on the food that you buy and cook, but it will make eating out less tempting.  One of the largest reasons that people eat out so often is that they just don’t feel like cooking. This is the best solution!

You could start with a basic layout for your meals every week.  You could say you are going to eat 1-2 stir fries per month, 1 salad, 2 fish dinners,  and 2-3 chicken dinners each week. Obviously you can pick your own layout, but this will make it easier for you to plan your week every week.

Don’t Waste Food

Wasting food means that you are wasting money.  Eat leftovers for breakfast and/or lunch every day and just make it your goal to not throw anything away.  You may have trouble doing this for the first few weeks since you will probably cook more than you can actually eat.  Just like anything else, practice makes perfect.

Coupon Clip

Coupon clipping has become more and more popular over the years and websites and apps are popping up left and right that will help you with this.  There are websites such as Honey, Groupon, Coupons.com, retailmenot, and offers.com that will give you free coupons to help you save a lot of money.

Honey

No coupon list is complete without at least mentioning Honey.  Honey is a Google Chrome extension that automatically applies coupons it finds on the internet to your transactions.  If you are buying something from Amazon, Walmart, Target, or a list of other retailers Honey will search the web for a coupon that applies to your order.  While not all the coupons will work, if Honey finds one every once in a while it is worth it! Why not give it a shot today?

Groupon

I think most people have heard of Groupon by now.  Different companies partner with Groupon to offer you great deals on their service.  Whether you are looking to go mini-golfing, get a massage, or just want some flowers Groupon will have a deal for you!

You purchase the deal from Groupon and then it acts as a giftcard on the site that you are buying from.  They have deals where you can buy $50 worth of products for $35, or $100 worth for $80! There are all different deals on Groupon so I highly suggest checking it out before you go anywhere!

Coupons.com

The next 3 websites are more traditional couponing sites.  Before you buy anything online or in store, you should jump on all 3 of these sites to see if they have any coupons available for you.  They will give you a coupon code and tell you how many people have used it in that specific day or month.

Honey will browse these sites for you when you check out but I wanted to mention them anyway since you can use them in store as well.

Coupons.com, RetailMeNot, and Offers.com are just 3 of the many websites that will give you great coupons for various stores in your area.  Check them all out today.

Other Cashback Websites

There are so many cashback websites on the internet such as Rakuten, Ibotta and Drop.  I suggest checking these sites on a bunch of pages because I truly believe in them.

With Rakuten you can get up to 40% cash back just by scanning your purchase receipt into the app.  Who doesn’t want that free money? There is nothing complicated about it.

Ibotta has paid its 35 million users over $600 million in rewards since they started and actually have a $20 reward for you if you sign up (as of 3/12/20).

Last but certainly not least, Drop is a website and app that will give you cash back in the form of gift cards to your favorite stores such as Amazon, Target, and Starbucks.  They offer different challenges every month where they promote a certain store. If you buy something from that store using the Drop app you will get extra money back!

To Sum It Up…

Whether you are looking to save $100, $1,000, or even $10,000 doing these things will make it so much easier.  Try one or all of these options to help you save a lot of money very quickly. Give it a shot today!
