9 Best Online Marketplaces to Sell Your Stuff

If you are trying to graduate college without student loans, then you came to the right place! One way to go to school without student loans is to spend less. I know, I know this can be really hard to do. Although I have other blogs about how to spend less, I know it is not easy!

Your second option of how to go to college without student loans is to get a job! This can also be really hard to do while you are busy studying and making friends. Even though it will be hard work for a few years, it will pay off in the end when you graduate college without student loans and you are going on extravagant vacations.

Your final option is to sell used stuff! This is a way to get the best of both worlds! The more you sell, the more you make, and the less you will have to work. Sell whatever you can to finance your way through school.

So you are probably asking what websites are best to sell your old stuff on. I created a list of my favorite websites and apps!

Facebook Marketplace

Facebook Marketplace is the best place to sell all of the used stuff that you are willing to give up. Don’t worry, you will be able to buy new ones when you graduate without student loans and you have a full time job.

Facebook is the largest social media platform in the world and a large majority of the world uses Facebook to connect with friends, family, and neighbors. As soon as they added the Facebook Marketplace option to their social media website, it became extremely popular. In fact, CNET says that over 800 million people use Facebook Marketplace monthly.

People sell everything from TVs, to cars, to furniture, and much more. As a college student, you can probably sell dorm room decorations, furniture from your apartment, and old cookware on Facebook Marketplace and make A LOT  of money. Give it a try and report back what you sold in the comments section below!

OfferUp and LetGo

OfferUp and LetGo are two very popular apps that allow you to take a picture of whatever you want to sell and post it on their platforms. Whether it is a used couch for sale, old guitar, or even your old car this is a great way to reach A LOT of people!

I have personally bought printers, furniture, and some decorations from these apps. Download the app, create an account and start selling today!

Craigslist

Craigslist is a great option that has been getting a bad rep lately. You can buy almost anything from Craigslist! They even have job listings posted on there.

Jump on their website and create an account so that you can start selling on there as well!

Your College Class’s Facebook Group

I don’t know about your college class’s Facebook Group page, but mine was super popular.  There were people from my grade, the year in front of, and the grade behind us in the group. If you are looking to sell something, this is a great place to do it!

It is oftentimes a little bit safer than other options like Craigslist and OfferUp or even normal Facebook Marketplace because most of the people on these pages are college students and likely people that you know.

There is a chance you will find a friend looking to buy something that you have!  Who knows? Give your Facebook group a chance.

PoshMark and Etsy

Poshmark is a great marketplace for you to sell your clothes. They have a very simple fee structure that will allow you to keep a majority of the money that you make from selling on there.  It is worth a shot!

If you are looking to sell something that you hand make, this is the best place to go!  People sell jewelry, decorations, handmade ornaments, and many other things. This is a great place to make really good money while you are in college.

Ebay

Ebay is an old website that still works great! It is a place where you can list anything that you have and wait for somebody to bid on it! So many people sell unique items here…whether they are autographed or just very rare.

You should check out Ebay using this link. The difference between Ebay and Facebook Marketplace is that you will be able to mail the goods to the buyer instead of having to meet up with them.

How to Stay Safe When Selling or Buying Online

  1. Bring somebody with you
  2. Meet in a public place
  3. Meet at a police station

Bringing a trusted friend or family member with you when you go to meet a stranger can help to keep you safe. Meeting in a public place or at a police station can also help with this!

It will allow you to meet somewhere that a lot of other people are, or at least in a place where there are cameras. Many police stations are now setting up meet up places for the citizens of their community.

Bonus Tip

Go to local yard sales and buy things that you think you can resell at a higher price. Yard sales usually have great deals on little trinkets, furniture, and other homegoods. You can probably make good money if you buy it and then turn around and sell it. Another option is to look at sales at stores such as Target. If something is on sale, buy it, and then resell it at full price.

The only downside to this is that it can be risky! You don’t know for sure whether or not a product will sell.  With time, you will learn what people are looking for, but it just takes time. It is a great option if you are smart with what you buy.

To Sum It Up

If you are looking to go to college without student loans, you have a few different options. You can either spend less and use the extra money to pay for school. You could get another job or you could sell things!

If you do all three of these options, you will succeed in graduating debt free! Remember, if you sell things, you will be able to buy new ones when you graduate debt free with a good paying job.
